Abia Tragedy: How Generator Fumes Kills Six Family Members

By Okey Sampson, Umuahia

Residents of Isi Obehie in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State were overwhelmed with grief after a tragic incident claimed the lives of six family members. The victims included a woman, her three children, her sister, and her brother-in-law.

According to reports, the tragedy occurred on Wednesday night when the family left their generator running outside their home with its windows open. The generator fumes reportedly entered their apartment through the open windows, leading to the deadly outcome.

The incident, which took place on Ofoji Street in Obehie, resulted in the immediate death of five family members. The younger sister of the deceased mother, who was found unconscious, later succumbed to the effects of the fumes at the hospital on Thursday.

The only survivor of the family of seven was the father, who was not at home during the incident. While the names of the victims have not been confirmed, it is known that they were originally from Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area but lived in Isi Obehie.

Abia State Police Public Relations Officer Maureen Chinaka confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the deaths.
