Abure-Led Labour Party Rejects Coalition Talks, Sets Up Disciplinary Committee Ahead of 2027

Abuja – The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party, under the leadership of Julius Abure, has firmly rejected any coalition talks as part of its strategic roadmap for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to the press following the NEC meeting in Abuja, Abure emphasized that the party will not relinquish its leadership or autonomy under any pretense. According to the communiqué released after the meeting, the Labour Party intends to focus on internal consolidation and growth rather than external alliances.

“The NEC affirmed that the Labour Party is neither involved in nor will be part of any coalition arrangements ahead of the 2027 elections. Our focus remains on strengthening the party, expanding our membership, and aligning our policies to effectively compete and win in 2027,” the statement read.

The committee underscored its dedication to fostering unity within the party, calling on disenchanted members to embrace reconciliation for the greater good of the party and the nation.

“The NEC remains committed to upholding democratic values and contributing to the deepening of democracy as a vehicle for national development,” the communiqué continued.

In a move to maintain internal discipline, Abure also announced the formation of a disciplinary committee tasked with probing allegations of anti-party conduct, including those leveled against Abia State Governor Alex Otti and other members.

Abure further praised the recent Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership dispute, stating that the verdict had provided clarity and reinforced the legitimacy of his leadership.
