ADC Says Tinubu Government Trying to Destroy Opposition Group

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused elements within the administration of President Bola Tinubu of orchestrating a covert campaign aimed at weakening and destabilising Nigeria’s growing opposition coalition.

 

In a statement released on Monday, the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary and spokesperson for the broader opposition alliance, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, raised alarm over what he described as a calculated attempt to interfere with the ADC’s internal affairs through coercion and political intimidation.

 

According to Abdullahi, the party has uncovered credible intelligence indicating that former state chairmen and executive members from the North-East and North-West zones were invited to a discreet meeting with senior federal officials. The ADC believes the intent behind the meeting is not rooted in national interest or dialogue, but rather an effort to pressure and possibly recruit these individuals into a plot to destabilise the party from within.

 

“This is not democratic engagement; it is a deliberate attempt to sabotage the integrity of the opposition,” the statement read. “The goal is to create disarray within our ranks, discredit our newly constituted leadership, and stall the momentum we have built as a rising force in Nigeria’s political landscape.”

 

The ADC warned that these actions are part of a broader agenda to undermine multi-party democracy and inch Nigeria closer to authoritarian rule.

 

“The recent unveiling of the new ADC leadership and the coalition declaration on July 1 have clearly unsettled the ruling party,” the statement continued. “Rather than address the real issues confronting the country
