ADC Sets April 2026 for Nationwide Congresses, National Convention

The African Democratic Congress has released the official timetable for its 2026 nationwide congresses and national convention, outlining a structured process to elect leaders across the party’s various levels.
In a statement issued by the party leadership, the ADC explained that the exercise is part of its constitutional obligation to periodically reorganise its internal structures and renew leadership from the grassroots to the national level.
According to reports referenced by The Punch, the congresses will commence at the lowest tier of the party and gradually move upward through local government and state levels before culminating in a national gathering.
Party officials said the process is designed to reinforce internal democracy and ensure that members actively participate in shaping the leadership direction of the organisation.
Under the schedule released by the party, Polling Unit and Ward Congresses will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. This will be followed by Local Government Area Congresses on Thursday, April 9, 2026, while State Congresses are expected to take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
The exercise will conclude with the party’s National Convention, which has been fixed for Tuesday, April 14, 2026, where national officers are expected to emerge.
Political observers cited by The Guardian Nigeria note that the planned congresses could play a significant role in strengthening the party’s organisational structure as political parties gradually begin positioning for the 2027 Nigerian general elections.
The party leadership emphasised that the congresses will begin at the grassroots level—covering polling units and wards—before advancing to the local government and state tiers, ensuring that leadership representation flows from the base of the party structure.
According to coverage by The Nation, the ADC also called on its members nationwide to actively participate in the process and adhere to the party’s guidelines to guarantee transparency and fairness throughout the exercise.
Party officials added that detailed procedures for the conduct of the congresses would be communicated to state and local chapters to ensure a smooth and credible process.
Analysts say the upcoming congresses and convention will provide an opportunity for the party to consolidate its internal structures and strengthen its political footing ahead of future electoral contests.
