Adeleke and Osun PDP Reject Atiku’s Coalition, Affirm Loyalty to Party Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ademola Adeleke

Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have firmly denied rumors suggesting that the governor and his supporters might defect or back any opposition coalition in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.

This clarification comes in response to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent decision to join forces with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition platform for various opposition groups.

In an interview with The Nation on Wednesday, Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi reiterated that Governor Adeleke remains fully dedicated to the PDP and has no plans to leave.

“We, including Governor Adeleke and his supporters, are firmly rooted in the PDP. We are not planning to move anywhere else. I assure you, our loyalty remains with the party,” Bisi emphasized.

Responding to Atiku’s assertion that the PDP lacks the strength to secure future electoral victories, Bisi expressed disagreement, stating, “We’ll have to wait and see. I don’t share that view. This isn’t the first time Atiku has distanced himself from the PDP, and yet the party has continued to succeed without him.”

While recognizing that coalition-building is a common feature of democratic politics — noting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) itself originated from a coalition — Bisi affirmed that the Osun PDP under Adeleke’s leadership remains focused, united, and resolute.
