Aftermath of US Raid on Venezuela: President Captured, World Reacts

The US operation on Venezuela’s La Carlota Air Base has drawn global attention, following the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. Former US President Donald Trump described watching the raid as if “I was watching a television show,” highlighting the speed and intensity of the operation.

Trump indicated that the United States is now evaluating its next steps in Venezuela, including potential involvement in the country’s oil sector. “We have the greatest oil companies in the world, and we’re going to be very much involved in it,” he said. He also emphasized that the US will not allow anyone to continue Maduro’s agenda.

According to Trump, Maduro was apprehended from a heavily fortified location, and while a few people were injured during the operation, they are reportedly in stable condition. He added that the US is considering whether the opposition leader should assume greater authority, though a vice president is currently in charge.
**International Reactions**
The raid has provoked concern from international organizations and leaders. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, expressed alarm over the escalation in Venezuela and its potential implications for international law. “These developments constitute a dangerous precedent,” he said, emphasizing the importance of respecting the UN Charter and established international norms.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also condemned the US action, calling it a “serious affront” to Venezuelan sovereignty that jeopardizes regional peace. “The bombings and capture of the president cross an unacceptable line,” Lula said, warning that such interference echoes the worst periods of foreign involvement in Latin America and the Caribbean. He urged the UN to respond firmly.
The La Carlota attack and Maduro’s capture mark a significant moment in the ongoing crisis in Venezuela, drawing criticism and concern from governments and international organizations across the globe.
