Akume Says He Is Not Running for APC Chairman

George Akume, SGF
Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has officially ruled out any intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This statement comes in response to recent media speculations linking him to the race for the party’s top leadership role.
Through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yomi Odunuga, Akume dismissed these claims as unfounded and a distraction from his current duties under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He emphasized that he has no plans to pursue the APC chairmanship or any other party office at this time. Instead, his efforts remain focused on delivering the goals set by President Tinubu and advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
While Akume recognizes that capable candidates from the North-Central region may vie for the national chairmanship should the party decide to zone the position there, he reiterated that his priority is to contribute to the nation’s progress rather than engage in internal party contests.
In his own words, Akume conveyed, “I am committed to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to me and am not in a rush to leave these tasks unfinished. I trust that what is meant for me will come in its own time. I am not participating in a race that doesn’t align with my interests. Everything I have achieved has been through divine grace and the support of many, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The notion that I am competing for the APC chairmanship is entirely false.”
He concluded by affirming his dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying, “Our focus is on ensuring Nigerians benefit from democracy’s promises. Under the President’s leadership, we are working tirelessly to fulfill these commitments.”
