Ali Modu Sheriff: ADC Will Split Within Three Months
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, a former Borno State governor and senior figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has openly dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a short-lived political experiment, predicting its collapse within the next three months.
In a recent television interview, Sheriff scoffed at claims linking him to the ADC, making it clear he has no interest in joining what he described as a party lacking in political substance, structure, or long-term viability.
“Some people are saying I’m heading to ADC—completely false,” he said. “Which ADC are they talking about? Is that even a political party? Give them three months, and the whole thing will fall apart. Everyone there believes they’re presidential material, but only one person can eventually be the candidate.”
According to Sheriff, the ADC is being propped up by a collection of individual presidential hopefuls—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai—who are reportedly exploring the platform as a potential alternative ahead of 2027. He said their goal appears to be replicating the APC’s historic formation, but without the critical foundation that made APC viable.
Reflecting on APC’s origin, Sheriff highlighted that its formation was driven by a solid coalition of existing political forces. “When we came together to form APC, we had around 15 governors on board. President Tinubu came in with four states, the ANPP brought in about five or six, and the New PDP joined with four. That’s how we built a real party. Today, APC controls over 20 states, has 73 senators, and holds a majority in the House of Representatives,” he explained.
In contrast, he characterized the ADC as a loose gathering of ambitious individuals without a cohesive base or electoral structure. “They all want to be president. They’re free to dream, but in this political landscape, the ADC is not even on the radar,” he concluded.
