An Open Message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu: StopUpholding Nigerians’ Right to Protest__Faduri Oluwadare Joseph (Fadojoe)

Faduri Joseph
‎Yesterday, October 20th, marked yet another dark chapter in our nation’s democratic journey. I, H.E. Faduri Oluwadare Joseph (Fadojoe), Former Labour Party Aspirant, , strongly condemn the actions of the Nigerian government and the shameful conduct of security forces who responded to peaceful protesters with brute force and intimidation.
‎
‎The excessive resistance faced by citizens exercising their constitutional right to protest is not only deeply disappointing—it is unacceptable. What transpired on the streets yesterday is a disgrace to the principles of democracy and a stain on the conscience of our nation.
‎
‎Peaceful protest is not a crime. It is a democratic right enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Every Nigerian has the freedom to raise their voice against injustice, misgovernance, or any societal ill without fear of repression or violence.
‎
‎The heavy-handed actions of military personnel against unarmed citizens are both heart-wrenching and shameful. As a nation, we cannot continue to silence the voices of our people through intimidation. Our democracy cannot thrive where fear reigns.
