APC Flexes Nationwide Muscle, Unites Ahead of Convention and 2027 Battle

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has signaled full readiness for its upcoming national convention following the successful conclusion of zonal congresses across the country, with party leaders projecting unity and renewed momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Across the six geopolitical zones, newly elected and returning party executives emerged largely through consensus arrangements, a move widely interpreted by observers as an effort to minimise internal disputes and consolidate party structure. As reported by The PUNCH, the congresses served as a critical prelude to the national convention scheduled to take place in Abuja.
Party chieftains, governors, and lawmakers who attended the various congresses echoed a common message—mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. The gatherings also doubled as a platform to reaffirm loyalty to the party’s leadership and ongoing reforms.
President Tinubu returned to Abuja ahead of the convention after concluding Eid-el-Fitr engagements in Lagos, where he held high-level meetings with governors, business leaders, and international partners, according to The Nation. His presence in the capital further underscored the party’s shift into convention mode.
In the South-West, delegates convened in Lagos and endorsed a unified leadership team, with key figures emphasising regional cohesion and electoral strength. Similar patterns played out in other zones, where consensus candidacies were adopted and ratified through voice votes, reflecting what insiders described as a strategy to maintain internal harmony.
The South-South congress in Asaba drew prominent political figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who highlighted the region’s growing alignment with the APC. Reports from The Guardian indicate that party stakeholders in the zone described the exercise as a demonstration of increasing political consolidation.
In the South-East, leaders stressed the importance of unity and expanding the party’s footprint, while the North-West and North-East congresses attracted a strong turnout of governors and federal lawmakers who reiterated support for Tinubu’s administration and ongoing reforms.
Meanwhile, in the North-Central, party leaders went a step further by openly adopting Tinubu as their preferred presidential candidate for 2027, citing his economic policies and governance direction as justification for their endorsement.
Political analysts say the smooth conduct of the zonal congresses and the adoption of consensus candidates reflect a deliberate attempt by the APC to avoid the factional crises that have plagued opposition parties in recent months. Coverage by Daily Trust also noted that the party’s focus on unity could play a significant role in shaping the political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
With the national convention imminent, the APC appears poised to consolidate its internal structure while positioning itself for a competitive 2027 race, as party leaders continue to rally members around a unified electoral strategy.
