Armed Bandits Attack Kwara Community, Abduct Seven Residents After Christmas

Suspected bandits on Friday evening attacked Adanla community in Igbaja Ward 2 of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, kidnapping seven residents and leaving several others injured, barely a day after Christmas celebrations.
A local source disclosed that the attack took place around 7:00pm, plunging the once-quiet community into fear, sorrow, and confusion. According to the source, the attackers arrived in large numbers, firing gunshots indiscriminately as they broke into homes and forcibly took away their victims.
“On December 26, 2025, at about 7:30pm, armed bandits invaded Adanla community in Igbaja Ward 2, Ifelodun LGA. Our peaceful town has been thrown into deep grief and pain,” the source said.
During the raid, seven people were reportedly abducted, while others sustained gunshot wounds. A young girl was said to have been critically injured and is currently fighting for her life.
“They stormed our homes during this festive period, abducted seven people, and injured many others. Gunshots were fired repeatedly, and our loved ones are now in the hands of these ruthless criminals,” the source added.
Residents described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that many families have been devastated, with fear and uncertainty now gripping the community.
As of the time of this report, it was unclear whether security agencies had commenced rescue operations or made any arrests. Attempts to obtain an official response from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The attack has heightened concerns about worsening insecurity in Kwara State and across the North-Central region, where communities continue to face banditry and kidnapping, even during festive seasons.
Meanwhile, panic also erupted in Offa, Kwara State, late Thursday night following loud explosions that damaged residential buildings. Witnesses reported seeing debris falling from the sky, raising suspicion that the explosions may have been caused by a drone-delivered device.
Video footage obtained from the scene showed fragments believed to be parts of a drone bomb lying on the ground, while several houses and shops were damaged. Residents were seen expressing distress and calling on the state government to urgently intervene.
A member of a local vigilante group confirmed that the explosions occurred around midnight, affecting multiple locations, including a hotel and an area near a prayer ground in Offa.
“Several houses and buildings were damaged, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” he said.
The incident occurred shortly after reports of U.S. airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in parts of Nigeria, although it remains unclear whether the Offa explosions were linked to those strikes or carried out by Nigerian security forces.
