Army orders troops to destroy Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto

The Nigerian Army has ordered its troops participating in Operation Fansan Yamma to eliminate or expel members of the Lakurawa sect from the country’s territory.

The directive was issued by Major General Oluyinka Soleye, the Theater Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest, during a visit to troops stationed in Balle, the headquarters of Gudu Local Government Area in Sokoto State, on Friday. While addressing the soldiers, Soleye urged them to stay committed to their mission and reassured them of the Army’s full support.

“I’m here to encourage you and assure you that we are fully behind you. Do everything you can to either neutralize the Lakurawa sect or drive them out of our land,” he stated.

Soleye praised the troops for their dedication and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the success of the operation.

In a separate interview, Alhaji Buhari Kurdula, the Chairman of Gudu Local Government Area, commended the efforts of the soldiers in maintaining security in the region, particularly in their fight against bandits and the Lakurawa sect. Kurdula explained that the Lakurawa sect had been active in the area for about eight years, with a more established presence over the past year. He expressed confidence that the government’s current approach would soon resolve the security challenges posed by the sect and other threats.
