Azura Power West Africa is set to unveil a 240-kilowatt solar-powered car park at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) on Tuesday, according to a statement released on Sunday. The launch will be officiated by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, as part of efforts to align with Nigeria’s energy transition objectives and President Bola Tinubu’s reforms in the power sector.

Murtala Bello, Head of Corporate Affairs at Azura Power, explained that the project is part of the company’s “Power to Change” program, which demonstrates its commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development within local communities and across the country.

“Azura Power allocates $1 million annually to support projects focused on sustainable livelihoods, education, health, and infrastructure. This solar car park is more than just an addition to UNN’s facilities—it’s a major step forward in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” Bello said.

He added that the solar installation at UNN will supply 75% of the energy needs for the university’s engineering faculty, benefiting approximately 2,650 students. The system is expected to generate over 400,000 kWh of clean energy each year, ensuring a steady power supply to enhance academic activities.

Bello also emphasized Azura Power’s commitment to Nigeria’s net-zero ambitions. He highlighted that the project will save the university N150 million annually in energy costs, with an investment of approximately N900 million, positioning it as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.
