Bauchi Emirate Revokes Senator Buba’s Traditional Title Over Criticisms of Governor Bala
The Bauchi Emirate Council has revoked Senator Shehu Umar Buba’s traditional title of ‘Majidadin Bauchi,’ citing his recent criticisms of Governor Bala Mohammed as the reason for this action.
Senator Buba, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District for the All Progressives Congress (APC), had criticized Governor Mohammed for blaming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Nigeria’s economic issues. Buba accused the governor of failing to adequately manage federal assistance, including shipments of guinea corn, fertilizer, and rice, and suggested that Governor Mohammed should not politically compare himself to President Tinubu.
The Emirate Council’s decision, detailed in a letter dated August 14 and signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the council’s Secretary, was based on a council meeting led by the Emir of Bauchi. The council condemned Buba’s actions as inconsistent with the traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate.
In response, Senator Buba accepted the Emirate Council’s decision with equanimity and urged the council to resist being influenced by political interests. He emphasized that his comments were aimed at defending President Tinubu from what he considered unfounded criticisms by Governor Mohammed and reiterated that his intent was to offer constructive criticism, not to insult the governor.
