Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed to Tinubu: Your Policies Are Not Working, Nigerians Are Suffering

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pay attention to the hardships faced by Nigerians, stating that “your policies are failing and the people are enduring unnecessary suffering.”
The governor made this remark while receiving a group of Islamic scholars, led by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir. He expressed his concerns that the president’s policies were causing widespread distress and called for a reassessment of those policies.
“I am not being disrespectful, nor is this an act of arrogance, but as leaders, it is our responsibility to speak the truth,” Governor Mohammed explained. “Our message is aimed at encouraging the president to address his mistakes. Nigerians are enduring hardship, and as governors, we too are feeling the effects of these poorly conceived policies.”
He specifically pointed to the Tax Reform Policy, emphasizing that while no government can function without adequate revenue, such policies should not destroy the very sources of that revenue. “If the government blocks the sources of its revenue, it will be unable to function,” he added.
Governor Mohammed acknowledged that there has been tension between state governors and the president over these issues, noting, “Yes, it’s true that we have disagreements because our people are suffering, and the president has not taken our concerns seriously.”
The governor further shared his intention to discuss the matter directly with Sheikh Jingir, stating, “You are one of the few individuals who can approach the president on this matter, and your influence could help address these pressing issues.”
