Borno Governor Presents N2.5bn Scholarship Cheque to Aviation University

In a bold move to expand educational opportunities for the youth of Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has presented a N2.5 billion scholarship cheque to the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) for deserving students. The gesture underscores the state government’s commitment to nurturing skilled professionals in the aviation sector.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the college’s headquarters, Governor Zulum highlighted the strategic importance of investing in education, especially in specialized fields like aviation. “Our youth are the future of Borno State and Nigeria at large. By providing access to quality education and professional training, we are equipping them to take advantage of opportunities in the global aviation industry,” he said.

The scholarship program will cover tuition, accommodation, and training fees for selected students over the next five years. Governor Zulum also revealed that the initiative aims to support not just academically outstanding students, but also those from vulnerable backgrounds, ensuring inclusivity in accessing education.

The management of NCAT expressed profound gratitude to the Borno State government. The institution’s Director-General remarked, “This scholarship initiative will open doors for many talented youths who would otherwise be unable to pursue careers in aviation. We are proud to partner with Borno State in shaping the future of the industry.”

Education stakeholders in the state have applauded the governor’s initiative, noting that such interventions are crucial for addressing unemployment and enhancing professional skills among young people. Analysts suggest that investments like this could also contribute to long-term economic development, as trained aviation professionals may attract both local and international investments to the region.

The scholarship program is expected to commence later this year, with the first batch of beneficiaries slated to begin their training at NCAT in the upcoming academic session.

Governor Zulum’s initiative comes at a time when the aviation industry is witnessing rapid growth, and Nigeria is actively seeking to close skill gaps to meet global standards. By prioritizing education and skill acquisition, Borno State is positioning its youth to compete on both national and international pla
