BREAKING: Organized Labour Unions Suspend Strike For Few Days; See Days
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have paused their strike for five days. This decision follows unresolved issues surrounding the new minimum wage and the recent increase in electricity tariffs.
TUC President Festus Osifo announced the suspension on Tuesday in Abuja after a special national executive council meeting of both unions. He mentioned that an official statement would be released soon.
The strike, which began on Monday, was a protest against the electricity tariff hike and the deadlock over the new minimum wage. The action disrupted essential services, shutting down schools, businesses, hospitals, and airports. The national grid was also taken offline, causing widespread power outages.
