Breaking: Suspected Dollar Fraudsters Arrested in Jigawa

 

Police in Jigawa State have arrested 25-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim for defrauding his friend of N1,942,000, promising to exchange the amount for US dollars.

 

The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement to DAILY POST.

 

According to DSP Shiisu, on May 20, 2024, Ibrahim Musa, a 20-year-old resident of Shagari Quarters, reported to the Hadejia ‘A’ Division that about a month prior, Abubakar Umar of Gandun Sarki Quarters defrauded him of N1,942,000, with the assurance of providing an equivalent amount in US dollars.

 

Following the report, detectives from Hadejia ‘A’ Division promptly arrested the suspect and transferred him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.

 

During interrogation at SCID Dutse, Abubakar confessed to the crime and implicated two accomplices: Yahuza Mukthar of Kurna Quarters, Dala LGA, Kano State, and Suleiman Yahaya. Both were subsequently arrested.

 

A search of the suspects’ possessions revealed 32 counterfeit 100 USD bills, a counterfeit 1,000 naira note, and some clothing.

 

All suspects have confessed to the charges against them and will be prosecuted in court.
