By-Election: Labour Party’s Julius Abure Labels Peter Obi an ‘Uber Politician’
Julius Abure, the leader of a faction within the Labour Party (LP), has taken a swipe at the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, branding him an “Uber politician” for what he describes as inconsistency and political opportunism.
In a statement personally signed by Abure on Friday, he criticized Obi’s recent political maneuvers, accusing him of lacking commitment to any single political platform and alleging that he frequently changes allegiance to suit his ambitions.
Abure claimed that Obi’s political behavior has become a contradiction, saying: “He has made himself into a political paradox—unwilling to stand firmly on any decision or platform.” He added that Obi is now known for “elevating political gamesmanship and crying foul where there is none.”
Taking his criticism further, Abure quipped that Obi might well qualify for the Guinness World Records for being affiliated with multiple political parties simultaneously—all, according to him, in a bid to ascend to the presidency.
His remarks came in response to Obi’s recent appeal to his followers to support African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for August 16 across various states.
Abure’s comments underline the growing rift within the Labour Party and highlight tensions over Obi’s role and political strategy in the aftermath of the 2023 elections.
