Call for Patience Jonathan’s Mediation in Wike/Fubara Dispute

Tony Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Rivers State election, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to involve Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, in mediating the ongoing political tensions in the state.
In an interview with Channels TV’s Politics Today, Cole emphasized the need for the president to reach out to notable figures such as former governors Ada George, Peter Odili, and pastor David Ibiyeomie to facilitate discussions between the conflicting parties.
Cole stated, “There are individuals Mr. President should empower to speak on his behalf and address the issues at hand, as they hold significant influence in the state. I can suggest a few key figures for this mediation.”
He named Ada George, a former governor, as a crucial political voice, and highlighted David Ibiyeomie as a respected spiritual leader in the region. Cole also mentioned the importance of including elder statesman Peterside, who has minimal political involvement.
Additionally, he noted the significance of involving Patience Jonathan due to her connection to the state and its political landscape.
“I believe if these four individuals, along with Peter Odili, are tasked with bringing together the warring factions, it could lead to a productive dialogue for the future of Rivers State. The president should consider this approach and bring in those who genuinely care about the state’s well-being,” Cole
concluded.
