Chaos in Benue: Fulani Herdsmen Kill Local Farmer, Fuel Tensions in Apa/Agatu

Tensions have risen in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State following the tragic killing of Mr. Ademu Ochoche in Ojantelle. His lifeless body was discovered this morning by local youths who had been alerted after he failed to return from his farm the previous day, February 21, 2025.
Reports indicate that Mr. Ochoche was murdered by Fulani herdsmen, despite claims by the herders that they had returned to the Apa/Agatu region in the spirit of peace, a return that was reportedly supported by local political and traditional leaders late last year. However, since their return in December, the presence of the herdsmen has escalated tensions in the area, with many local farmers now unable to access their land safely.
