Charly Boy Dismisses New Opposition Coalition, Calls It “Old Wolves in New Agbada”
Renowned musician and social commentator, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa—better known as Charly Boy—has criticized the emerging coalition of opposition leaders aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
As reported by Daily Post, influential figures from major political parties—including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and disgruntled elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC)—have joined forces under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The coalition, led by former Senate President David Mark, plans to use the ADC as a platform to contest for power in the next presidential election.
While the alliance has sparked excitement among some Nigerians hoping for a political shift, it has also raised eyebrows. Critics argue that many of the coalition’s leaders are part of the political establishment that contributed to Nigeria’s current challenges.
Among the skeptics is human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who publicly distanced himself from the coalition, calling the players involved “corrupt.”
Charly Boy echoed similar sentiments in a Facebook post on Thursday night. He questioned the sincerity of the movement, accusing the coalition members of repackaging themselves for personal gain rather than genuine national progress.
“These are the same individuals who played major roles in bringing the country to its knees, now suddenly chanting redemption songs,” he wrote.
He went further to say:
> “Let’s not be fooled by these alliances. Not all coalitions are created for change. Sometimes, it’s just the same old wolves dressed in new agbada.
Are they fighting for the people—or simply for a seat at the table they once criticized?
Are they demanding change because they’ve evolved—or because they’re no longer the ones enjoying the benefits?”
Charly Boy concluded by stressing the need for authentic leadership and a shift in values, stating that the 2027 elections shouldn’t be about political revenge, but about genuine national rescue.
> “We don’t just need new faces—we need new ideals, new direction, and leaders with the courage to uphold them.”
