CHECK NEW PRICE: MultiChoice Adjusts Subscription Prices for DStv and GOtv After Court Ruling

MultiChoice has reinstated its previous subscription prices after a court ruling ordered the company to stop its planned price increases.

The company announced its intention to appeal the court order, arguing that the ruling is detrimental to its business model.

A review of the company’s apps indicates that the old prices have been restored while the appeal is pending.

Following a court mandate, MultiChoice, the owner of DStv and GOtv, reverted to the former subscription rates. This comes after subscribers had already paid the increased rates for May 2024. Checks by Legit.ng on June 16, 2024, confirm that the company has implemented the rollback.

The company, facing a significant subscriber loss in Nigeria—over a million subscribers—has committed to challenging the Competition Consumer Tribunal (CCT) order.

**Revised DStv Prices: Old vs. New**

– Premium package: Previously N29,500, reduced from N37,000

– Compact+ package: Previously N19,800, reduced from N25,000

– Compact Bouquet: Previously N12,500, reduced from N15,700

– Confam package: Previously N7,400, reduced from N9,300

– Yanga package: Previously N4,200, reduced from N5,100

– Padi package: Previously N2,950, reduced from N3,600

**Revised GOtv Prices: Old vs. New**

– Super+ package: Previously N12,500, reduced from N15,700

– Super package: Previously N7,600, reduced from N9,600

– Max package: Previously N5,700, reduced from N7,100

– Joli package: Previously N3,950, reduced from N4,300

– Jinja package: Previously N2,700, reduced from N3,300

It remains uncertain whether the company will offer a free month of subscription as the court directed. MultiChoice has not issued an official statement on the matter, and company representatives were unavailable for comment.

Reports suggest that MultiChoice initially increased its subscription rates to address the economic impact of high inflation and the devaluation of the naira in Nigeria.
