Dele Momodu Replies FCT Minister Nyesom Wike: “A Loose Cannon in Public Office”

Dele Momodu
In response to comments made by Minister Nyesom Wike on Politics Today with Seun Okinbaloye on Channels TV, journalist and media mogul Dele Momodu has issued a strongly worded statement criticizing the Minister’s conduct and public outbursts.
Momodu described Wike’s recent appearance on national television as “reckless and unbecoming of a public servant,” accusing the Minister of disrespecting critics and undermining democratic values. “He appears too young to understand the sacrifices many of us made to help return Nigeria to democratic rule in 1999,” Momodu said.
Recalling a past encounter, Momodu noted that following a viral Instagram Live interview with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu—during which Kanu harshly criticized Wike—he was contacted by Wike’s camp seeking a chance to respond. Momodu granted the request and conducted an interview with Wike, who later invited Ovation to cover some of his projects in Port Harcourt.
“But it seems his memory is failing him,” Momodu remarked, adding that he has now requested equal airtime from Channels TV to properly address Wike’s recent remarks and present his side of the story, especially for the benefit of Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu.
Momodu also dismissed Wike’s insinuations about hospitality or generosity, saying, “He may be wealthy now, but back then, I introduced him to finer tastes—from champagne to perfumes—and helped shape his public image. I was no guest groveling for favors.”
“He frequently invited me for photos and PR support, seeking to improve his image. He used to admire my relationship with his then-boss, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. At the time, Wike was still finding his feet.”
Momodu concluded by warning that Wike’s conduct in public office poses a risk to the dignity of governance. “Someone needs to rein him in before things get out of hand,” he said, noting that he would present further evidence—including photos and gifts exchanged—in due course.
