Democracy Day: See Date Federal Government Declares as Public Holiday

The Federal Government has officially designated Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a public holiday in recognition of this year’s Democracy Day.

This announcement was made in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. According to the statement, the declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Marking 26 years of continuous democratic governance in Nigeria, the minister extended his congratulations to all citizens, highlighting the significance of June 12 as a symbol of the nation’s ongoing pursuit of justice, peace, and progress.

“June 12 stands as a powerful reminder of our nation’s commitment to truth, justice, and unity. It reflects our enduring resilience and the renewed hope for a better future,” he said.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s dedication to strengthening democratic values through transparency and inclusivity, emphasizing that democracy thrives when the will of the people shapes the country’s political, economic, social, and cultural directions.
