In an appearance on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, advised Igbos to avoid involvement in the protest, emphasizing that their past sacrifices have been significant and should not be furthered.

Various groups have been rallying support on social media for the protest, aiming to draw attention to rising hardships, the increasing cost of living, hyperinflation, and insecurity. In response, the federal government has urged organizers to reconsider their plans, citing ongoing efforts to address these issues.

The government has announced several measures, including the distribution of 20 trucks of rice to each state, approval of a N70,000 minimum wage increase, and the establishment of centers offering 50kg of rice at a 50% discount to help families.

Despite these initiatives, Deputy Speaker Kalu believes that participating in the protest is unnecessary given the government’s actions. He urged the Igbo community to refrain from joining the protest, asserting, “Igbos should stay away and remain in their homes; participating could lead to unnecessary harm.”

Kalu further advised, “Igbos, let those who are strong enough take part in the protest. Our focus should be on ensuring safety rather than engaging in potentially harmful demonstrations.”

Several Igbo groups, including the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, have expressed their intention not to participate in the protest.
