Deputy Speaker Kalu Welcomes Over 3,000 Defectors to APC in Abia

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has officially welcomed over 3,000 new members from various political parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State. This development was reported by ABN TV.

The defection took place during an empowerment event in Akwete, Ndoki, located in the Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia. The event was hosted by Hon. Chris Nkwonta, the representative for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd from both Ukwa East and Ukwa West, who were seen with the APC’s iconic broom symbol, Kalu expressed optimism about an increasing wave of defections to the party.
He attributed this shift to the growing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the development of the Igbo people, particularly with the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), which is aimed at addressing the region’s infrastructural needs.
It’s worth noting that Hon. Nkwonta, who chairs the House Committee on the South East Development Commission, recently switched allegiance from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to APC.
Kalu praised President Tinubu’s efforts, stating: “The President has been a true advocate for Ndigbo. He remains committed to our progress, especially through the creation of the South East Development Commission. He is the only leader who has honored the long-standing promise of reconstruction, reconciliation, and rehabilitation for Ndigbo. He believes in equity, fairness, and development. His leadership is a beacon of hope for our people, and under his direction, we are moving toward a future of progress.”
He further assured the new APC members, saying, “By joining APC, you are aligning with a party that is close to the people. We welcome you warmly. Your decision to move from other parties, including PDP, shows that APC is the party of choice for those who seek real development. Together, we will empower you to make a difference in your communities.”
