Details of Kwara Health College Provost Proposes Solutions for Addressing the “Jappa” Syndrome
Dr. Aliyu Alabi, Provost of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, has urged both Federal and State governments to enhance support for graduates of Health Technology Institutions. His call is aimed at mitigating the impact of the high number of medical professionals leaving the country.
Dr. Alabi made this appeal during a press conference in Ilorin, Kwara State’s capital, where he highlighted the crucial role that graduates from Health Technology Colleges play in primary healthcare across Nigeria.
He explained that these institutions produce a substantial number of skilled professionals who are essential for meeting the mid-level manpower needs, especially in grassroots healthcare services.
Dr. Alabi pointed out that inadequate funding remains a significant challenge for the institution and advocated for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to extend its financial support to Health Technology Colleges.
He revealed that in the past two years, around 1,600 graduates from Kwara State’s health institution have been deployed for the National Youth Service, underscoring their vital contribution to the nation’s health workforce.
The Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, has trained over 60,000 health technologists in various fields in recent years, making a positive impact on the healthcare sector, according to Dr. Alabi.
