Edo 2024: APC Campaign Council Accuses Obaseki of Plotting Election Rigging
The APC Campaign Council in Edo State has raised concerns about an alleged scheme by the State Government to manipulate the upcoming September 21 gubernatorial election. According to the council, the government plans to use personnel from the Edo Security Network to intimidate voters on election day.
In a statement signed by Prince Kassim Afegbua, the Director of Media for the Edo APC Campaign Council, it was claimed that the state government is preparing police and military uniforms for the Edo Security Network members. These individuals are purportedly set to pose as official security forces to facilitate voter intimidation.
Afegbua accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of using the Edo Security Network for illegal activities aimed at rigging the election. He mentioned that there have been increasing reports from concerned citizens about the government’s alleged efforts to use threats and intimidation to disenfranchise voters.
The statement also highlighted previous incidents, including attacks on APC campaign events and illegal roadblocks set up by the Edo Security Network. The APC is calling on the military and the Nigeria Police, particularly the Inspector General of Police, to intervene and investigate these allegations to prevent potential disruptions to the election.
Afegbua urged the authorities to take swift action, including banning the Edo Security Network and arresting those with illegal firearms, to ensure a peaceful election process. He emphasized the importance of maintaining democratic integrity and safeguarding voters’ rights.
