Edo APC Vice Chairman Resigns from Party; See Reasons
By Adeyinka Adedipe
Ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, Francis Inegbeniki, the vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, announced his resignation on Sunday.
In his resignation letter dated June 8, 2024, addressed to the APC leadership in Opoji, Esan Central Local Government Area, Inegbeniki cited recent developments in the party that conflicted with his core principles and values as the reason for his departure.
He stated, “There comes a time in the life of every man when some hard decisions must be taken not only in one’s interest but in the general interest of his people. This is one of those moments.
“This marks my 25th year as an active, financial, and dedicated grassroots politician in Edo State. As one of the founding fathers of the APC in Edo State, I believe I have contributed my quota to the growth of the party at the ward, local government, senatorial district, state, and national levels. However, recent developments in the party at my local government area and state conflict with my core principles and values. This has led me to seriously evaluate my political future in Edo State and decide on the way forward.
“After consultations with my family, friends, and political associates, I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the APC and my role as the state vice chairman. It is a hard decision but it is in the best interest of the good people of my senatorial district.”
Inegbeniki did not reveal whether he would be joining another political party. He extended his well wishes to his colleagues in the APC, stating, “To my friends, brothers, and sisters in the All Progressives Congress, I wish you well and want you to know that we remain connected. I cherish our relationship, and nothing can change that. I believe in the future of Nigeria and the Renewed Hope agenda.”
