Edo Election: Hundreds of PDP, LP, and ADC Members Decamp to APC Ahead of Governorship Poll

On Wednesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed hundreds of new members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) at a reception held in Igueben, Edo State, in anticipation of the upcoming state governorship election.

Matthew Urhoghide, Director General of the APC Campaign Council, greeted the newcomers, assuring them of equal treatment within the party. He expressed confidence in Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s governorship candidate, affirming that he is attentive to the needs of the electorate.

Urhoghide remarked, “We are pleased to have you join our party. In the APC, every member is valued equally. With your support, I am confident that Senator Okpebholo will address the concerns of the people. Please remember to vote for the APC on September 21.”

Odianosen Okojie, the APC campaign coordinator for the Edo Central Senatorial District, urged the new members to turn out in large numbers on election day to support the APC.

Meanwhile, Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s governorship candidate, addressed supporters at his residence in Ujabhole, Uwesan, Esan Central Local Government Area, stating, “My constituents have assured me of their support, so there is no need for extensive campaigning in this area.”

Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, speaking in Irrua, Esan Central LG, criticized the PDP, alleging that the party lacks a legitimate candidate due to a court ruling that invalidated the primary election process. He advised voters to avoid wasting their votes on the PDP.

Oshiomhole said, “The PDP currently has no valid candidate according to the Federal High Court in Abuja. The court has discredited the process that led to Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy, so please don’t waste your vote on the PDP.”

Deputy Governorship candidate Dennis Idahosa also appealed to supporters, emphasizing the importance of securing a 100 percent vote from Esan Central Local Government for the APC on September 21.
