Enugu Governor Mbah Highlights Security as Cornerstone of State Transformation Agenda

In Enugu, Nigeria, Governor Chukwuma Mbah has emphasised that improving security is a central pillar of his administration’s broader transformation agenda for Enugu State, noting that safety and stability are essential for economic growth and social development.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Governor Mbah said that his administration has made significant strides in fortifying law enforcement, investing in community policing initiatives, and deploying technology to enhance intelligence-gathering across the state.
“The transformation agenda of Enugu is not just about roads, infrastructure, or schools,” Mbah said. “It is about creating an environment where people feel safe to live, work, and invest. Security underpins every sector of development, from commerce to education.”
The governor highlighted recent collaborative efforts between state security agencies and local communities, aimed at preventing criminal activities and fostering trust between residents and law enforcement. According to him, these measures are already showing results, citing a noticeable decrease in reported cases of burglary, armed robbery, and other security breaches in urban and rural areas alike.
Mbah also referenced the integration of technology into the state’s security apparatus, noting that CCTV monitoring, real-time reporting channels, and emergency response systems have been expanded under his leadership. “We are leveraging modern technology to ensure that law enforcement is proactive rather than reactive,” he stated.
According to The Punch, the governor added that public participation is crucial, urging citizens to collaborate with security agencies through community watch programs and digital reporting platforms. He explained that a participatory security model strengthens governance and ensures that development projects under the Enugu Transformation Agenda are not undermined by criminal activity.
Governor Mbah also linked the state’s security strategy to economic initiatives, emphasizing that investor confidence is directly tied to safety. “Businesses will thrive when they know that their operations, staff, and investments are protected. Security is the foundation on which we can build industrial parks, attract investors, and support entrepreneurship,” he noted.
In addition to law enforcement reforms, Mbah confirmed that the state government is investing in social interventions to address the root causes of insecurity, including youth unemployment and social vices. “Part of our strategy is to give young people alternatives to crime, whether through skills acquisition programs, educational opportunities, or community engagement,” he said, as reported by The Guardian Nigeria.
Social media reactions have been largely positive, with residents praising the governor for linking security to broader societal transformation. Many noted on Twitter and X that prioritizing safety not only protects lives but also enables Enugu’s ongoing infrastructural and economic projects to succeed.
Governor Mbah concluded that the state’s vision for a safer, more prosperous Enugu relies on continuous collaboration among government agencies, traditional leaders, civil society groups, and citizens. He affirmed that the Enugu Transformation Agenda is “a roadmap for a state where security, development, and opportunity go hand in hand.”
As the administration continues to roll out key projects in health, education, transport, and economic development, analysts say the emphasis on security could become a model for other states seeking to integrate public safety into comprehensive development strategies.
