Enugu Governor Peter Mbah Urges Citizens to Ignore Sit-at-Home Order; Give Reasons

The Enugu State Government has strongly condemned the unauthorized sit-at-home order issued by unidentified non-state actors for Tuesday, October 29, 2024. This order was reportedly in response to the tragic death of popular Ogene musician Okezie Mba, known as Igbo Jah. The government labeled the individuals behind this directive as criminals and opportunists who have no regard for the welfare of the people of Enugu and the wider Igbo community.
Governor Mbah reassured residents that state authorities and security agencies are taking firm action to ensure justice for the late musician, vowing that those responsible will face severe consequences. The government characterized the promoters of the sit-at-home as adversaries of Enugu State and the Igbo nation.
In a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the government urged citizens to ignore the illegal order and continue with their daily activities. It emphasized its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while confirming that the suspect in Igbo Jah’s death is already in custody and under investigation.
On Sunday, a government delegation, including the Secretary to the State Government and the Chief of Staff, visited the bereaved family to express condolences and reaffirm the administration’s dedication to justice.
The statement highlighted that the government is not surprised by attempts from criminal elements to exploit this tragedy to create unrest and hinder economic activities in the state. Such individuals, who manipulate public sentiment under the guise of freedom advocacy, do not represent the industrious spirit of the Igbo people and are viewed as enemies of the community.
The government announced that there will be no compliance with the sit-at-home order in Enugu State on October 29, 2024, and assured citizens that all necessary measures will be taken to maintain security.
Finally, the administration warned against spreading fear or promoting the illegal order through social media, stating that those who disseminate such content will face repercussions as a warning to others.
