ESA-OKE TRAGEDY: OSUN APC FAULTS ADELEKE’S ‘RECKLESS ACCUSATIONS,’ CALLS FOR THOROUGH PROBE INTO ADEROBA’S DEATH

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the killing of an indigene of Esa-Oke in the Obokun Local Government Council Area of the state, Ajayi Busayo Aderogba, on Tuesday, in a controversial manner, charging the police to investigate the matter in order to bring to justice whoever might be involved in the exra-judicial killing.

The life of everybody is precious and its inviolability enjoys the statutory protection as enshrined in the relevant portion of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

It is important for the state police command to investigate the killing of the deceased in order to straighten some of the knotty issues associated with it as it is only the police who are constitutionally authorised through diligent investigation to find out the circumstances that caused the controversial death in order to nip in the bud the various speculations about the killing.

While we are commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased over the needless killing, we are also condemning the hasty and Inciting remark of the state Governor Ademola Adeleke, whereby he unjustifiably accused our party and some of our leaders as being responsible for the killing without waiting for the police investigation.

We shall not stop in educating the outgoing Governor Adeleke that it is wrong of him to always assume the statutory roles of the police who are constitutionally authorised to investigate crimes in the society.

The governor was only exhibiting his crass ignorance by labelling some of our leaders and members of our party as being responsible for the killing of Aderogba without waiting for the investigation of the police.

We are appealing to the Inspector-General of Police to call the outgoing Osun State Governor Adeleke to order as his actions and inactions are fuelling avoidable disturbances of public peace across the state of which that of Esa-Oke was the latest.

It is disheartening that Governor Adeleke could decide to go to the route of unnecessarily heating up the polity with his inflammatory political statements unexpected from the chief executive of a state, forgetting that it is under a peaceful atmosphere that he can perform better as the state governor.

It is wrong of the embattled governor to weaponize the unpleasant killing of Aderogba as an instrument to chase away from Esa-Oke some of the members and leaders of our party who are wrongfully being framed as being responsible for the killing in order to create a non-level playing ground for the forthcoming 15th August, 2026 governorship election.

Here’s reiterating to the members of the public that our party which has peaceful characteristic as its hallmark hasn’t changed the posture and it would not now, for any reason, imbibe the culture of violence and brigandage which is not known for.

The leader of the APC in Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy; our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji AMBO; the Director-General of AMBO Campaign Council, Honourable Wole Oke and other leaders and members of our party are men and women of exemplary embodiment of peace in all ramifications.

Governor Adeleke should stop jumping the gun, do away with inflammatory statements, honourably act and behave his office as the the chief law officer of the state and not the chief promoter of avoidable crises in the state.

May God grant the bereaved family of Esa-Oke the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of their loved one.

*Mogaji KOLA OLABISI, Osun State APC Director of Media and Information.*
