Ethereum: Trying to use Block Erupters with Ubuntu 13.04
I’m trying to mine Ethereum on my Ubuntu 13.04 system, and unfortunately it’s proving to be frustrating. I installed everything I need to mine bitcoin, including the latest version of bitcoin-Qt, cgminer, and bfgminer. However, after setting up Block Erupters, which is supposedly compatible with these miners, my system is having trouble booting.
As soon as I try to connect the Block Erupter USB hub to my Ubuntu 13.04 box, the system crashes or freezes. The error message suggests that there is a problem with the block erupter itself, but I’ve checked its installation and configuration. It seems like something is wrong.
My question is: can anyone confirm that Block Erupters is compatible with Ubuntu 13.04? Have others successfully used them to mine Ethereum on this system?
I would like to hear from other miners who have tried setting up Block Erupters, as well as any troubleshooting tips or workarounds I might need to try before I abandon my project.
Update: After some research and trial and error, it seems that my assumptions about the block eruption problem were correct. However, I found a solution: use the libretorpe
package instead of the original Block Erupter software. This modified version appears to be compatible with Ubuntu 13.04.
If anyone has successfully used Block Erupters on their system or knows of any workarounds for this problem, please share your experiences in the comments below!
