Ex Governor Wife, Betsy Obaseki Responds to Oshiomhole’s Claims: “I Am Not Barren”

Betsy Obaseki, wife of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has addressed recent comments made by Adams Oshiomhole, who described the Obasekis as childless. Oshiomhole’s remarks came in response to a statement by Betsy Obaseki, where she reportedly mentioned that Monday Okpebholo, the APC governorship candidate, did not have a wife.

Oshiomhole criticized the Obasekis, suggesting they had no interest in adopting children and questioning their commitment to parenting. “I was surprised to hear Mrs. Obaseki claim that our candidate has no wife,” Oshiomhole said. “She and her husband are childless and have shown no interest in adoption.”

In a Zoom meeting with Edo women in the diaspora, Betsy Obaseki responded to these claims, expressing that her experiences with miscarriages, stillbirths, and the loss of babies in the womb should not define her or others facing similar struggles as barren.

“My message to those who, like me, have faced miscarriages and stillbirths is that you are not barren,” she said. “You are potential and proud mothers, and children will come in their own time. Our worth is not limited to biological motherhood; it extends to our impact on society and the positive changes we make.”

Obaseki encouraged women to focus on their contributions and enjoy life, emphasizing that motherhood encompasses more than just bearing children. “Women can fulfill their purpose in various ways beyond just childbearing,” she added.
