Fani-Kayode Blasts Those Mocking Buhari: “They’ll Be Forgotten Like Stray Dogs”
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has delivered a scathing rebuke to those making light of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari. In a recent statement posted to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Fani-Kayode condemned the online ridicule directed at the late president, calling it disgraceful and inhumane.
He described Buhari’s critics as unruly and lacking basic decency, asserting that mocking the dead reflects a deeper moral decay. “Regardless of where you stood on Buhari’s leadership—whether you admired him or opposed him—publicly ridiculing him in death is not just disrespectful, it’s a reflection of a lost sense of humanity,” he wrote.
Fani-Kayode went on to say that mocking a deceased individual is beneath any civilised person and only serves to highlight the emptiness in the lives of those doing it.
“Such behavior is appalling,” he added. “It is not our place to mock the dead or pass judgment—that role belongs solely to God. The families, friends, and loved ones of the departed are mourning. This is not the time for hate.”
Drawing from biblical history, he reminded readers how King David mourned Saul, despite the enmity between them. “Even though Saul was David’s tormentor, David never rejoiced at his death. Instead, he paid him respect and even punished the man who delivered the fatal blow.”
Fani-Kayode urged those celebrating Buhari’s death to take a hard look at their own lives. “None of us can escape death. It comes to all. The real question is: will you leave behind a legacy worth remembering, or will you be forgotten the moment you’re gone?”
He concluded with a stark warning: “Mocking Buhari won’t tarnish his legacy. He lived a long life, served his nation, and is remembered by many. Meanwhile, those laughing today risk fading into obscurity—dying unmourned, their bitterness their
only legacy.”
