Fayose Reveals What Really Happened Between Makinde and Tinubu at Aso Rock

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has shared his version of events surrounding Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
According to Fayose, Makinde did not attend the meeting alone, as he reportedly arrived with the Governor of Plateau State for support. Fayose claimed that the President made it clear he was willing to discuss official matters concerning Oyo State but had no interest in private political negotiations. He reportedly advised Makinde to express his political views openly, rather than saying one thing in public and another behind closed doors.
Fayose further stated that President Tinubu reminded Makinde that he should not attempt to reverse his public statements, especially his past accusations about plans to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. The President was said to have insisted on transparency and consistency in political engagements.
He also disclosed that the President told Makinde not to expect his backing ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that he would continue to support his own party. According to Fayose, Tinubu reaffirmed his confidence in Nyesom Wike, describing him as a loyal and dependable ally whose support he values.
Fayose added that the President advised Makinde to resolve any personal issues with Wike independently and not involve the Presidency. He suggested that this reality explains why Makinde later told journalists that he remains comfortable in the Peoples Democratic Party, as he allegedly has no political future in the APC.
The former governor also questioned whether Makinde had accounted for the ₦30 billion intervention fund reportedly received from the Federal Government following the January 2023 Ibadan explosion. He urged the Oyo State Governor to be transparent with the people on how the funds were used.
Fayose concluded that the meeting reflected political realities that Makinde must now come to terms with, especially ahead of future political contests.
