Federal Government Allocates ₦15 Billion for Benin-Akure-Ilesha Road Dualization in 2025 Budget

The Federal Government has committed ₦15 billion towards the dualization of the Benin-Akure-Ilesha road, a major infrastructure project covering 150.7 kilometers. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Works’ budget within the proposed ₦49.74 trillion 2025 national budget.

The project will be executed in two phases: Phase I will focus on rehabilitating the existing Benin-Akure road, while Phase II will involve adding an additional lane to the existing carriageway.

Apart from the Benin-Akure-Ilesha road dualization, the 2025 budget also includes significant allocations for other critical infrastructure projects. These include ₦15 billion for the rehabilitation of the Bauchi-Jigawa state border road, which is expected to improve transportation in the region.

Another major focus is the reconstruction of the Shagamu-Ore road, for which ₦11 billion has been allocated. This 96-kilometer route connects Ondo and Ogun states. Additionally, ₦10.45 billion has been set aside for the dualization of the Akure-Ilesha road, covering 66.15 kilometers.

The 2025 budget also includes ₦9 billion for the construction of the Ukana-Ikot-Ntuen road in Akwa Ibom state and ₦8 billion for the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Abeokuta road, enhancing connectivity between Lagos and Ogun states.

Other allocations include ₦8 billion for the construction of the Abak-Ekparakwa-Ete-Ikot-Abasi highway in Akwa Ibom, ₦7 billion for the Ugep road in Cross River state, and ₦6 billion for the construction of the Oferekpe bridge, which will improve connectivity between Cross River and Ebonyi states.

Furthermore, ₦6 billion has been earmarked for the rehabilitation and dualization of the Ado-Ekiti-Afe Babalola University road (30.55 kilometers), while ₦5 billion will go towards the construction of the Illara-Isolu road.

The budget also includes ₦4 billion for the construction of a 23-span flyover bridge at Eke-Obinagu junction along the Enugu-Abakaliki road, and another ₦4 billion for the rehabilitation of Ogunusi Road in Ikeja, Lagos.

In addition, ₦3 billion will be allocated for the dualization of the Abakaliki-Afikpo road, including flyover works, and ₦8 billion for the construction of the Benin-Agbo road to improve access to Benin City.

These investments are part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to improve transportation infrastructure across the country.
