Federal Government to Roll Out Smart Police Stations Nationwide

In a significant move towards enhancing security and digital transformation in Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced plans to establish smart police stations across the country. This initiative comes through a strategic partnership between Galaxy Backbone (GBB) and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF).
The collaboration was formally launched with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday in Abuja. Speaking at the event, GBB’s Managing Director, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the initiative as a forward-thinking step aimed at strengthening the nation’s security infrastructure through technology.
“This partnership marks a critical milestone in modernising Nigeria’s law enforcement system,” he said. “By leveraging GBB’s fibre-optic network, eLTE, and cloud services, we’re creating smart police stations that are equipped with AI-powered surveillance, advanced communication systems, and strong cybersecurity frameworks.”
According to Adeyanju, the smart stations will significantly improve police response times, enhance data management, and promote transparency within the force. He emphasized that integrating digital tools into policing practices is key to building public trust and boosting operational efficiency.
Also speaking at the event, Mohammed Sheidu, Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, highlighted the importance of the partnership in addressing long-standing challenges in data management within the police force.
“This MoU represents a major step toward bringing the Nigeria Police into the digital age,” Sheidu said. “One of our major hurdles has been efficient data collection and analysis. Through this partnership with GBB, we’re taking bold steps to modernise our systems and align with global best practices.”
He also noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda to digitalise public institutions and improve national security.
The rollout of smart police stations is expected to be a transformative step for Nigeria’s policing landscape, setting a precedent for how government agencies can collaborate to drive innovation and tackle critical national issues.
