FG Confirms Payment of Super Eagles’ AFCON Group-Stage Bonuses

The Federal Government has confirmed that all bonuses owed to Super Eagles players for the group stage of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations have been released and are expected to reach the players’ domiciliary accounts shortly.
The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, made this known on Thursday while addressing reports suggesting that members of the national team were unhappy over unpaid bonuses and might disrupt preparations ahead of their quarter-final match against Algeria in Marrakesh.
In a statement shared on her official X account, the minister said the issue had been resolved through joint efforts by the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria. She explained that new measures were put in place to ensure faster and more reliable payments, in line with global standards.
According to Uzoka-Anite, all group-stage entitlements have been fully processed and cleared through the necessary regulatory channels. She added that a fast-track system was also introduced to convert the payments into foreign currency, in line with the players’ preference for receiving their bonuses in dollars.
The minister disclosed that the final transfer stage is already underway, with payments being credited to the players’ domiciliary accounts. She assured that the funds should reflect between Thursday and Friday.
She emphasized that the government remains fully committed to the welfare and morale of the team as they progress in the tournament, stressing that every effort is being made to ensure off-field matters do not distract the players from their mission.
The announcement is expected to calm concerns and allow the Super Eagles to focus fully on their AFCON 2025 campaign as they prepare for the knockout stages.
