Former Lagos Doctor Arrested in UK Over Alleged Secret Filming of Sexual Acts

Dr. Olufemi Olaleye, a former medical director at the Optimal Cancer Care Foundation in Lagos, has been detained in the United Kingdom on suspicion of involvement in sexual offences. He appeared before the Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday, where a remand order was issued, keeping him in custody until January 2, 2026.
Information obtained by *Saturday PUNCH* indicates that the 57-year-old British-Nigerian doctor was arrested on Thursday, November 27, at London’s Gatwick Airport shortly after arriving from Nigeria. Officers from the North Kent Police reportedly picked him up immediately for interrogation.
Olaleye, who previously worked as an Obstetrics and Gynaecology consultant at Darent Valley Hospital under the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust between 2005 and 2008, is alleged to have committed the offences during that period. Kent Police confirmed his arrest and disclosed that he has been charged with three counts of voyeurism.
Responding to an inquiry, Kent Police spokesperson Charles Harman stated via email that officers were alerted to the suspect’s arrival and promptly arrested him. According to the police, he gave his name as **Francis Olaleye**, 57, of Plumstead, London. He reportedly pleaded not guilty during his court appearance on November 29, after which he was remanded until another hearing scheduled for December 5.
**Multiple Identities Uncovered**
The police’s reference to the name “Francis” prompted further checks by *Saturday PUNCH* to avoid misidentification. A review of public records and his social media profiles suggests that Olaleye has used different variations of his name over the years.
On UK Company House records, he appears as *Frank Olufemi Olaleye*, while records of a charity he founded—Wish for Africa, registered in 2007 and dissolved in 2010—list him simply as *Frank Olaleye*. His incorporation documents show “Olufemi” as a former surname. Meanwhile, his LinkedIn and Instagram accounts identify him as *Dr Femi Olaleye*, and the covers of books he authored present him as *Olufemi Olaleye*. It is unclear at what point “Francis” was added to his name, but findings confirm that all the variations belong to the same individual.
There are also inconsistencies surrounding his age. Company House lists his birth year as 1968, making him 57, yet an August 2025 Instagram post suggested he was marking his 58th birthday.
**Details of the Alleged Offences**
According to a Courts and Tribunals Service Centre officer, the charges relate to secretly recording women engaged in private acts between May 2004 and July 2007 in Dartford, Kent. The offences fall under the UK Sexual Offences Act 2003, which criminalises filming or observing individuals in situations where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy. One victim—reportedly a married woman—was said to have been filmed without consent, a discovery that allegedly led to the breakdown of her marriage. Three witnesses have been listed by the police.
Court officials disclosed that prosecutors argued that Olaleye posed a flight risk and could possibly re-offend, prompting the decision to keep him in custody. His next court mention is slated for January 21, 2026, at the Maidstone Magistrates’ Court.
**Background of His Legal Challenges in Nigeria**
Olaleye’s arrest in the UK came almost a year after he was acquitted in a separate high-profile case in Lagos. In 2022, he was charged with sexually abusing his wife’s teenage niece—a case that generated widespread public attention. The allegations stretched from 2020 to 2021, when the girl was said to be 15 and 16 years old.
The Lagos Sexual Offences Court convicted him in October 2023 and handed him a life sentence, with Justice Rahman Oshodi calling him a “dangerous offender.” However, in November 2024, the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction, ruling that the evidence against him was unreliable and that key testimonies, especially from his estranged wife, were tainted by alleged ulterior motives. The appellate court also faulted the trial judge for allegedly overreaching during the proceedings.
The Lagos State Government has since appealed the acquittal at the Supreme Court.
Following his release, Olaleye travelled widely, visiting countries such as the United States, the UAE, and Italy. He also wrote multiple books narrating his experience and granted numerous media interviews. His journey to the UK ended abruptly with his arrest at Gatwick Airport.
