Fulani Herdsmen Cut Off Girl’s Hand After Family Rejected Marriage Proposal

A 15-year-old girl, Endurance Sabon, has suffered a brutal attack in Goska community, Kaninkon Ward of Kafanchan, Jama’a Local Government Area in Kaduna State, after her family reportedly rejected a marriage demand made by suspected Fulani herdsmen. The incident has left the teenager with a severely injured hand, which was cut during the attack.
A family source said the incident began earlier on Friday while Endurance, her mother and other relatives were working on their farm around 10 a.m. During the farm work, some men approached them, admired the girl and insisted that she be given to one of them in marriage. The family reportedly thought the comments were a joke and ignored them. However, unknown to them, the men allegedly followed the family as they left the farm later in the evening.
According to the source, as the family waited for a motorcycle to take them home around 6:30 p.m., the attackers ambushed them from the bush. In the confusion, the women fell, and the attackers used a torchlight to identify their target. After realising they had seized the wrong person, they searched again, found Endurance and forcefully dragged her into the forest, where they attacked her and inflicted a deep cut on her hand.
The injured girl was first taken to the General Hospital in Kafanchan and later moved to a private hospital for urgent treatment. Due to the seriousness of her injuries, she has now been referred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care, as the family appeals for urgent assistance to cover medical expenses.
The family also disclosed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, out of a group said to be about nine men. They are calling on the Kaduna State Government and security agencies to ensure the suspects are properly prosecuted, provide medical support for the victim and address the growing insecurity in the community. Residents of Goska say the incident has increased fear in the area, as cases linked to forced marriages and violent attacks continue to pose serious threats.
