Governor Nwifuru Suspends 87 Ebonyi Government Officials for Missing Key State Function
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has issued a one-month suspension without pay to 87 top government officials who failed to attend an important state function.
According to a statement released late Monday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, those affected include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.
Governor Nwifuru’s directive takes immediate effect. The suspended officials have also been barred from performing official duties or signing government documents during the suspension period. In the case of commissioners, the statement said they must hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.
“This disciplinary action sends a strong message about the administration’s expectations when it comes to responsibility, professionalism, and accountability,” Uzor said in the statement.
He further explained that the governor’s decision reflects his commitment to building a disciplined and responsive public service, where officeholders lead by example and show consistent dedication to duty.
