Governor Yusuf Blasts Ganduje, Vows to Focus on Legacy, Dismisses 2027 Election Rumors

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has responded assertively to rumors alleging that the APC is planning to manipulate the results of the 2027 elections, asserting that he is ready to defend his leadership against any challenges.

Addressing participants at a monthly women’s empowerment event at Coronation Hall, the governor emphasized that his focus is not on the upcoming elections but on fulfilling his mandate. He believes that his leadership was divinely appointed, and he is more concerned with delivering the promises made to the people of Kano during his first term.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf stressed, “The priority is not reelection, but ensuring that the people benefit from the democracy I have vowed to uphold. By the time my term ends, I want the citizens of Kano to judge me based on the work I’ve done, not political speculation.”

The governor also criticized attempts by political opponents to disrupt the peace in Kano by posing as members of the opposition. He reminded the public that despite facing major challenges in 2019 and 2023, his administration triumphed, securing overwhelming victories even without holding any prior political positions.

Governor Yusuf further cautioned the APC leadership in Kano against using inflammatory rhetoric that might intimidate those exercising their civic rights. “My path to governorship was destined,” he said. “If it is God’s will, I will serve a second term. If not, I will accept it. There is no need to worry about something beyond my control.”

The governor’s remarks come after the NNPP’s decisive victory over the APC in the 2023 elections, where the ruling party lost significant seats, including 18 out of 26 House of Representatives positions, 26 of the 40 State Assembly seats, two senatorial seats, and the governorship.
