Gunmen Attack Police Station in Anambra; See the Number of Officers killed

On Monday, September 16, gunmen believed to be linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) bombed a police station in Anambra State, resulting in the deaths of three police officers. The attack occurred around 10 a.m. in Orumba South Local Government Area.

According to reports, the assailants were enforcing the Monday sit-at-home order when they encountered security forces. Joint Security Forces, including the Military, Police, Navy, Civil Defence, and local vigilantes, responded to the attack and discovered five unexploded bombs at the scene.

Eyewitnesses initially reported three deaths and several injuries, but Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesperson, confirmed that two officers were killed during the attack. He explained that the attackers used improvised explosives and gunfire, causing part of the police station to catch fire.

The affected officers’ bodies have been recovered and taken to the morgue. Following the incident, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam visited the site to assess the damage and review security measures.
