Gunmen Kidnap District Head, His Son, and Five Others in Sokoto

Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa district in Sokoto State, along with his son, has been abducted on the Sokoto–Sabon Birni route. The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N1 billion for their release.
In addition, reports indicate that five other individuals were also kidnapped in the Sabon Birni area over the weekend when the district head was seized. The Sokoto Police Command, represented by ASP Ahmed Rufa‘i, has confirmed the abductions and stated that an investigation is underway.
Alhaji Isa S. Gobir, a relative of the victim, informed journalists that the district head was ambushed at Kwanar Maharba while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni. According to Gobir, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, causing the tires to burst and the driver to lose control, leading to a sudden halt.
The bandits then abducted the district head and his son, who was also the driver.
Alhaji Isa has called on the government to take urgent measures to secure the release of the kidnapped individuals. The incident has caused significant distress among Sabon Birni residents, who are urging authorities to act swiftly to resolve the situation and ensure the victims’ safe return.
