In Kaduna State, terrorists have attacked and killed two officers from the Kaduna Vigilantes Service (KADVS) who were on a mission to safeguard farmers in the Tasake community, located in the Ungwan Mayana area of Gayam ward, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
According to resident Idris Khalid, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening and also claimed the lives of two local farmers. Additionally, several travelers were abducted, including Amina Adamu, who was en route from Buruku where she had taken her daughter for medical treatment.
Khalid reported that their vehicle was halted around 4:30-5:00 pm on a bridge in Kwaga village, Gayam ward, where Amina, her daughter, and other passengers were seized. Some passengers in another vehicle managed to escape.
The attack began with gunfire around 11:00 am to noon in Tasake village. Despite the KADVS’s efforts to confront the attackers, resulting in some terrorists being neutralized, the vigilantes were ambushed. Vigilante members Yahaya Nasafe and Yakubu Umar, along with the two farmers, were killed.
Khalid suggested that a coordinated military offensive targeting the terrorists’ hideouts might be necessary to address the ongoing security issues. He also recommended that the National Communications Commission closely monitor terrorist communications to assist security agencies with accurate location data and block their communications.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls for comment by the time of this report.
