Healthcare for All: Oyebanji Vows to Make Quality Medical Care Every Ekiti Citizen’s Right

Speaking during a recent health sector engagement in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the right to quality healthcare should not be seen as a privilege reserved for the wealthy, but as a fundamental entitlement of every Ekiti indigene. He stressed that his government’s goal is to ensure that no family is pushed into poverty due to medical expenses.
“Healthcare is not a luxury — it’s a right,” Oyebanji declared. “Our vision is to build a system where every Ekiti citizen, from the remotest village to the city center, can access quality medical care without fear or financial hardship.”
The governor highlighted ongoing reforms in the state’s health sector, including the revitalization of primary healthcare centers, recruitment of medical personnel, and expansion of health insurance coverage under the Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme (EKHIS). According to him, these initiatives are designed to strengthen the healthcare delivery chain and bring medical services closer to the people.
Oyebanji also disclosed plans to upgrade the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) to a world-class medical facility equipped with modern technology and specialized departments capable of handling advanced medical cases.
In his words, “We are not just fixing structures; we are building a system that prioritizes preventive care, digital health innovation, and a compassionate workforce.”
The governor further appealed to private investors, international development partners, and health professionals in the diaspora to collaborate with the state government in transforming the health landscape of Ekiti.
Public health advocates have applauded Oyebanji’s renewed commitment, describing it as a step toward sustainable development and improved life expectancy in the state.
As Ekiti continues to chart a course toward inclusive growth, Governor Oyebanji’s pledge signals a new dawn — one where access to quality healthcare is not determined by one’s pocket but guaranteed by
one’s citizenship.
