How DPO Halliru Liman was Fatally Shot by Soldier at Military Checkpoint in Zamfara

Halliru Liman, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for the Wasagu Division in Kebbi State, has been killed after being shot by a soldier at a checkpoint in Zamfara.

According to ASP Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, Liman was en route to Birnin Kebbi for a meeting when he was intercepted at the Danmarke area in Bukkuyum Local Government Area by military personnel from Operation Dadarin Daji.

Abubakar reported that despite Liman identifying himself as a police officer, he was shot dead by the soldier.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the police command called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident to ensure justice for the slain officer.
On August 28, 2024, around 10:30 AM, Liman was fatally shot by military personnel under the command of one Hassan, stationed at OPHD Sector 6 in the Dan Marke area of Bukkuyum, Zamfara State.
The statement condemned the act as “alarming and unacceptable,” noting that Liman was killed despite identifying himself and that Hassan’s actions were a severe breach of rules and inter-agency cooperation principles.
The police emphasized the need for immediate action to address the situation and hold those responsible accountable. They stressed the importance of collaboration between the police and military to ensure peace and security, while offering condolences to Liman’s family and colleagues.
